Situated about 40 minutes from the guest house.
The city’s most important monuments include the Cathedral, situated in the famous Piazza dei Miracoli, declared a world heritage site. It was built from marble between 1063 and 1118 in Romanesque-Pisa style with its bronze portal of san Ranieri by the sculptor Bonanno Pisano and its pulpit by the sculptor, painter and architect Giovanni Pisano. In the square stands the famous Leaning Tower, a twelfth century bell tower, 56 metres tall, which developed its distinctive lean ten years after its construction began.
It should be noted that the city has at least three leaning towers, the most famous of which is in Piazza dei Miracoli. The second is the bell tower of the Church of San Nicola at the other end of Via Santa Maria and the third is the bell tower of the Church of San Michele degli Scalzi (which also has a lean), halfway down Viale delle Piagge by the river in the eastern part of the city.
