The old centre of the little town stands in a strategic position on a hill by the River Arno halfway betweenFlorence and Pisa. The town was therefore the scene of conflicts between what are now the two main cities until the definitive Florentine conquest. San Miniato is the seat of the diocese and an important economic and industrial centre in the Tuscan leather district and is famous for its white truffles, celebrated every year in November.
